アメリカのアーティスト、サイ・トゥオンブリー（1928-2011）は、従来の分類にとらわれない絵画や彫刻を制作しました。彼の作品には、落書きや書道のマーク、詩や神話のテキストなど、さまざまな要素が盛り込まれています。1995年にオープンしたメニルコレクションのサイ・トゥオンブリーギャラリーは、レンゾ・ピアノの設計によるもので、このアーティストの熱心なファンが訪れる場所となっています。メニル美術館とトゥオンブリー、そしてダイア・センター・フォー・ジ・アーツとの緊密な協力関係から生まれたこのギャラリーは、20世紀を代表する芸術家を最もよく表現しています。トゥオンブリーは、展示する作品を選び、建築家と緊密に協力して、展示に最も適した場所を作りました。
