AN APPROACH TO THE STUDY OF CULTURAL CONSUMPTION OF COSTA RICAN TEACHING STAFF

Cultural consumption is fundamental in various aspects of individual and social life, since it not only contributes to the formation of identities and the recognition of socio-cultural differences, but also increases the cultural capital of people, thus improving their opportunities for development and well-being. For this reason, the objective of this research was to analyze the cultural consumption of teachers working in public schools of the Ministry of Public Education of Costa Rica. From a methodological point of view, an exploratory study with a quantitative approach was developed by applying a questionnaire to 4410 teachers from different modalities of the public education system, and the resulting data were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics. The results show that the dimensions of cultural consumption evaluated - cultural and natural heritage, visual arts and crafts, artistic performances and festivals, audiovisual and interactive media, and textual productions - are generally low among teachers, except for audiovisual and interactive media, where medium to high consumption is observed. The need for a change in the understanding and appreciation of cultural expressions to enrich the personal and professional environment of teachers is highlighted.
